During the first year of their relationship Amanda lived in Edmonton Alberta and Brett in Medicine Hat Alberta, a long 6 hour drive apart. Nobody said it was going to be easy for them, but love knows no distance. They even found out that the extra distance made the simplest things the sweetest, being able to hold the other person’s hand, eating together at the same table, feeling each others touch, taking a walk together, smelling each others hair… these small wishes suddenly meant so much more. Finally, they were able to be together in the same city. The rest is history.
Brett proposed to Amanda atop the Calgary Tower. The two took take place in an event that allowed athletes to climb the 802 steps, (52 Floors) to the top of the tower. Once at the top Amanda was surprised to see all her family there with flowers and camera’s out. She then turned around for Bretts’ reaction, only to see he was down on one knee.
When it came to choose the wedding location, they knew it had to be extraordinary. There are a lot of beautiful hotels in the world, but the Mauna Kea stands alone. Situated along the arid Kohala Coast on the west side of Hawaii’s Big Island, it’s startling in its beauty. Barren, desertic expanses meet brilliant blue sky above and turquoise waters at its edges. The words “Luxury resort” do not immediately come to mind, however the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is one of the worlds most famous beach resorts, and has been for 50 years. There is magic here and it’s in the heritage and retro-ness of this place. For more than five decades, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel has had the pleasure of hosting romantic Big Island wedding ceremonies for generations of happy couples and their families. Brett and Amanda chose Old Hole Number 3 as their ceremony site. The tee-box is located high on an ancient lava bluff and is nestled among coconut palms and the sculpted fairway. The rolling blue surf of the Pacific Ocean and vibrant hues of the setting sun complete this dramatic setting. They chose the luau for their reception.
It was incredibly difficult to narrow down the photos for this post. These two people hold such a special place in my heart that I simply couldn’t pick just a few.
